Marjha Golding-Evans

Marjha Golding-Evans is a Partner in IMD’s Family Law team with almost 20 years of dedicated family law experience. 

She advises high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, company directors, professionals, farming families and landowners on complex family and financial matters, with particular expertise in cases involving businesses, trusts, agricultural assets, landed estates and significant personal wealth.  

Having begun her family law career in London in 2005 before establishing her practice across Wales and the South West, Marjha has built a strong reputation for helping clients navigate complex financial issues arising from relationship breakdown. Her work frequently involves substantial business interests, inherited wealth, family companies, farming enterprises, trusts, pensions and multi-property portfolios.  

Known for her strategic, commercially minded and pragmatic approach, Marjha helps clients identify practical solutions that protect both their immediate interests and long-term financial position. She combines technical excellence with empathy and a genuine understanding of the personal and commercial challenges clients face during periods of significant change.

Marjha specialises in complex financial remedy proceedings, wealth protection and family disputes involving significant assets and sophisticated financial arrangements. 

She regularly advises on matters involving:

Marjha works closely with accountants, business valuation experts, financial advisers, land agents and other specialist professionals to develop solutions that meet clients’ immediate needs while safeguarding long-term financial positions.

Farming, Landed Estates and Rural Wealth 

A particular area of Marjha’s practice is advising farming families, landowners, estate owners and rural business operators. 

She understands that farms are rarely simply assets on a balance sheet. They are often multi-generational businesses, family homes and part of a family’s identity and legacy. Family disputes involving agricultural businesses therefore require specialist expertise that extends beyond family law alone.  

Marjha has extensive experience advising on divorces involving farming partnerships, agricultural businesses, inherited landholdings, landed estates and wider rural wealth. Her work frequently requires consideration of succession planning, taxation, trust structures, business continuity and the competing interests of different generations within a family business.  

She is particularly skilled at helping clients balance the need to achieve fair financial outcomes while preserving the long-term viability of family farms, estates and rural enterprises wherever possible.  

Country Landowners Association and Rural Sector Leadership 

Marjha’s involvement with the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) is a significant aspect of her rural sector expertise. 

She serves on both the South Wales Committee and the CLA’s Legal, Parliamentary and Property Rights Committee, one of the organisation’s national committees responsible for developing and approving policy proposals affecting property rights, land ownership, rural businesses and estates. [cla.org.uk] 

The CLA represents over 28,000 landowners, rural businesses and farms across England and Wales, and actively engages with policy affecting agriculture, rural enterprise, planning, property rights and the wider rural economy.  

As the only family lawyer serving on her CLA committees, Marjha brings a unique family law perspective to discussions affecting landowners, farming families and rural businesses. These roles provide valuable insight into the challenges facing the rural sector and allow her to remain closely connected with developments affecting farming communities and land-based enterprises.  

Her involvement has also led to regular engagement with farming families and rural business owners, strengthening her understanding of the practical realities faced by those operating agricultural businesses and managing estates across generations.  

Leadership and Recognition 

Prior to joining IMD, Marjha was Managing Partner for the South West and Wales region of Stowe Family Law LLP, where she led a large regional team across multiple offices whilst continuing to maintain a complex personal caseload. Her responsibilities included strategic planning, budgeting, recruitment, colleague development and regional performance management.  

Marjha was recognised by The Legal 500 as a Next Generation Partner, a distinction awarded to junior partners receiving significant recognition from clients and peers within their market.   

The directory’s editorial commentary highlighted her expertise in complex matrimonial finance matters involving significant farming assets and landed estates and noted:

In a previous role, Marjha established and led the Family Law department at RDP Law, where the team’s success resulted in a nomination for Family Team of the Year at the Wales Legal Awards 2022.  

Thought Leadership and Law Reform 

Marjha is committed to contributing to the wider development of family law and regularly shares her expertise through writing, speaking engagements, professional commentary and policy engagement.  

Throughout her career she has written legal commentary, guidance and practical resources for family law professionals. She has contributed specialist content to both LexisNexis and Jordan Publishing, authoring practice notes, precedents, legal updates, procedural guidance and case analysis for family law practitioners.  

Marjha has also delivered professional training and presentations on developments in family law, including presenting the webinar “Private Children Law: An Update” for Family Law in 2019.  

Her interest in legal reform extends beyond day-to-day practice. As a longstanding member of Resolution, she has actively supported changes to family law, including lobbying her Member of Parliament during the development of no-fault divorce legislation.  

Marjha was also invited by Baroness Shackleton and Baroness Deech to attend discussions at the House of Lords concerning the reform of financial provision law, reflecting her interest in the future development of financial remedies and family justice.  

She is also recognised as a commentator on family law issues affecting the agricultural sector. Her article for Farmers Weekly, “The Divorce Process: What Farming Families Need to Know”, explored the unique challenges facing farming families during divorce, including succession planning, agricultural businesses, inherited land and the preservation of multi-generational farming enterprises.  

Marjha also engages in education, having guest lectured for the University of the West of England’s Course Connect program on family law.

Marjha regularly contributes to professional discussion on family law through publications, speaking engagements and sector commentary. Her work has been featured by Farmers Weekly, Family Law and LexisNexis, and she has presented webinars for family law practitioners on developments in private children law. She is also recognised for her commentary on family law issues affecting farming businesses and rural wealth.  

Marjha’s influence extends to legal advocacy, actively participating in the lobbying for No Fault Divorce and being invited to speak at significant events, such as the Law Commission’s ‘Reform of Financial Provision’ debate at the House of Lords in June 2023 and the CLA’s ‘Next Generation’ event at The Royal Welsh in July 2023, showcasing her as a notable figure in the legal community.

Outside work, Marjha enjoys spending time with her family and supporting her energetic daughter at her sporting activities. Marjha can often be spotted on the sidelines of a rugby pitch, passionately backing her daughter’s games or energetically cheering for Wales. She is a returner to running and is always trying to discover new routes around the various training grounds she waits at the sidelines of! Marjha is passionate about cooking, hosting and making the most of the countryside. Travel remains another long-standing interest, both professionally and personally, and she is ticking off her bucket list one by one.
